About the Role

We are looking for a Staff Backend Engineer (experienced, Senior+ engineer), you’ll play a key role in designing and delivering reliable, scalable, and maintainable backend systems that power our core products. You’ll lead projects end-to-end, working cross-functionally with product managers, designers, and fellow engineers to bring thoughtful, user-focused solutions to life. Your technical leadership will help simplify complex systems, resolve performance bottlenecks, and elevate engineering practices across the team.

What You’ll Do

  • Own the full software development lifecycle: design, development, testing, deployment, monitoring, and maintenance.
  • Design and implement scalable backend systems, RESTful APIs, and database models.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to translate product requirements into technical solutions and project estimates.
  • Lead architectural decisions and technical designs, including infrastructure and database strategies.
  • Write clean, testable, secure, and maintainable code following best practices and patterns.
  • Drive code quality through code reviews, mentorship, and continuous improvement efforts.
  • Monitor system performance, identify areas for improvement, and proactively refactor or enhance where needed.
  • Contribute to technical documentation, design standards, and engineering processes across the organization.
  • Represent backend engineering in cross-team initiatives, helping shape broader technical strategies.

What We’re Looking For

  • 7+ years of backend engineering experience in fast-paced, agile, SaaS environments.
  • Proven track record of designing and building complex, high-traffic systems with long-term maintainability in mind.
  • Expertise in Node.js and TypeScript.
  • Strong knowledge of relational databases (PostgreSQL) and distributed systems (ClickHouse).
  • Experience with containerization, infrastructure as code (Terraform), and cloud platforms (preferably AWS).
  • Familiarity with real-time data pipelines and event-driven architectures using Kafka.
  • Deep understanding of software design principles (e.g., DRY, YAGNI, SOLID) and best practices.
  • Strong testing mindset—unit, integration, and performance testing included.

Communication & Leadership

  • Clear, concise communicator with strong written and verbal skills.
  • Comfortable defending technical decisions and leading cross-functional discussions.
  • Skilled at breaking down complex problems and mentoring engineers at all levels.
  • Passionate about documentation, code quality, and consistency across teams.
